Interesting Cases
Case 1: This is a 4 year old miniature horse mare that has had a draining abcess for a couple of months. Retained caps (baby teeth) caused hay and feed to be retained behind the teeth. This caused an infection (periodontal disease). The infection caused the abscess of the second cheek tooth. Two retained caps were removed.

The following radiograph shows the infected tooth.

The next image shows the tooth after removal. You can see the black area from the periodontal infection.

The second radiograph shows the tooth completely removed. Decayed and rotten hay and feedstuffs were removed from behind the tooth after extraction.

The draining tract from the abscess cleared within days of tooth removal.
